Faso Dance Theatre

Faso Danse Théâtre is a contemporary dance company operating from Brussels and Bobo-Dioulasso. It was founded in 2002 by Burkinabé actor, dancer and choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly. His creations explore complex themes in an effort to stimulate a genuinely positive dynamic.

While Coulibaly’s inspiration is rooted in African culture, his artistic practice is committed́ to creating a powerful contemporary dance that is anchored in emotion yet always bears a profound reflection and hope. Its strong expression makes it universal and relatable for audiences on all continents.

The creation processes of each of the Faso Danse Théâtre’s spectacles take place partially in Africa and partially in Europe.

For Serge Aimé Coulibaly, dance is a social commitment. He examines everyday reality and social evolutions and shares his reflection with his audience.

In a quest to take his artistic vision and commitment to a higher level, he founded Ankata – an international research and creation laboratory for the performing arts – in Bobo Dioulasso (Burkina Faso) in 2011.
