Serge Aimé Coulibaly established the Ankata Foundation in 2020, during the COVID-19 outbreak that weakened Burkina Faso’s economy. It was a practical realisation of his mission of fostering and encouraging the values of engaged citizenship in service of the community. A direct impulse for creating the Ankata Foundation was Coulibaly’s concern about the impoverished life conditions of some families in the neighbourhood surrounding the Ankata studios. Although Ankata and the Ankata Foundation are formally two different organisations, their goals and daily operations are closely intertwined.
The foundation’s objectives are :
to grant micro-credits for setting up of income-generating activities
to make donations to vulnerable individuals
to collect and distribute goods for people in need
to cover school fees for children from disadvantaged backgrounds
to take actions to help street children and prevent them from begging
to initiate, host or join any national or international development project aimed at combating poverty
to create and/or operate facilities that will help to empower people and combat poverty
to set up anti-poverty associations
Since its creation in 2020, the Ankata Foundation has :
Granted micro-credits to around twenty women who were already engaged in income-generating activities (weavers, vegetable sellers, cake sellers, etc.) to help them develop their businesses more effectively
provided schooling for 2 girls in 6th grade
helped clean up the neighbourhood by emptying and closing holes that had become rubbish dumps
